World Economic Forum kent AgroAmerica de New Champions Award toe

GUATEMALA CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)– AgroAmerica ontving de New Champions Award 2021 – in de categorie van Excellence in Social Responsibility voor het Human Development Centre -HDC- project, dat bestaat uit een medische kliniek, onderzoeksfaciliteit en een school voor arbeiderskinderen , het bevorderen van gezondheid, onderwijs en ontwikkeling in de zuidwestelijke regio van Guatemala.

Sinds de opening in 2014 wordt het centrum beheerd in een alliantie bestaande uit de University of Colorado, Project Cure, Foundation for the Comprehensive Health of Guatemalans – Funsalud- en Agroamerica, met als doel bij te dragen aan de Sustainable Development Goals.

Tot op heden heeft de kliniek een scala aan diensten verleend aan meer dan 35.000 patiënten, waaronder medische behandelingen, tandheelkundige zorg en een bevallingscentrum. De gemeenschapsprogramma’s zijn gericht op de gezondheid van moeder en kind en de ontwikkeling van jongeren; van 2014 tot 2020 hebben 3.343 kinderen en 1.976 vrouwen deelgenomen aan de programma’s om de moeder- en kindersterfte terug te dringen en de voedingstoestand van het gebied te verbeteren; het lokale niveau van ondervoeding bij kinderen is drastisch gedaald ten opzichte van het nationale gemiddelde van 50%.

Since its opening in 2014, the Center has been managed in alliance comprising the University of Colorado, Project Cure, Foundation for the Comprehensive Health of Guatemalans – Funsalud- and Agroamerica, aiming to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

To date, the clinic has provided a range of services for more than 35,000 patients, including medical treatments, dental care, and a childbirth center. The community programs focus on mother and child health and youth development; from 2014 to 2020, 3,343 children and 1,976 women have participated in the programs to decrease maternal and infant mortality and improve the nutritional status of the area; the local level of child malnourishment has been dramatically reduced from the national average of 50% .

The Research Center complements the actions of the HDC. The main objective is to scientifically investigate the root causes of the health problems observed in the region by measuring the incidence of diseases such as Zika, Chikungunya, Dengue, diarrhea, and most recently, COVID-19, to develop action plans to eradicate them.
