Telefonica UK (O2) en IDEMIA werken aan een veilige verbinding van 23 miljoen huizen in het VK met slimme meters tegen 2025

COURBEVOIE, Frankrijk– (BUSINESS WIRE) – O2 heeft in samenwerking met IDEMIA, de wereldleider in Augmented Identity, vandaag veilige connectiviteit geleverd aan meer dan 4 miljoen huizen in het VK met een tweede generatie Smart Meter. De uitrol zal in de toekomst worden voortgezet en ondersteunt het Britse overheidsprogramma om slimme meters in te zetten voor alle Britse huishoudens en kleine bedrijven.

Als onderdeel van de transitie naar een flexibele energiemarkt die een koolstofarme economie en duurzame consumptiegewoonten vereist, geven slimme meters consumenten bijna realtime informatie over energie, waardoor ze controle krijgen over hun energieverbruik en een einde maken aan geschatte facturering. Slimme meters worden geleverd met displays voor in huis, zodat consumenten een beter inzicht krijgen in hun energieverbruik. Tegen die achtergrond melden klanten die de nieuwste generatie slimme meters gebruiken een gemiddelde besparing van ongeveer 10% per maand.

As part of the transition to a flexible energy market that requires a low carbon economy and sustainable consumption habits, smart meters give consumers near real-time information on energy helping them to take control of their energy usage and bring an end to estimated billing. Smart meters come with in-home displays to enable consumers to have a better understanding of their energy usage. Against that backdrop, customers using the latest generation of smart meters are reporting an average saving of around 10% per month.

Together, they have already reached the milestone of connecting 4 million UK homes equipped with smart meters using IDEMIA’s Machine to Machine (M2M) SIM technology. For the future, O2 expects to implement up to 23 million devices, following the UK Government’s mandate that every home in Britain should have a smart meter by 2025.
