IBC Launches Quest for the Most Innovative Projects

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The IBC Innovation Awards have grown to become the most valued and most prestigious honours for technological developments in the broadcast and electronic media industry. Nominations for the 2016 awards are now invited.

“What makes the IBC Innovation Awards so sought-after is what makes them unique,” said Michael Lumley, Chair of the judging panel. “They celebrate co-operation and teamwork, to get the latest technology from the drawing board into the real world. Our award winners are proven projects which are delivering real creative, technical and commercial benefits, and the trophies go to the users of the projects – the broadcasters and production companies.”

There are three IBC Innovation Awards: for the most innovative work in content creation, content management and content delivery. While manufacturers, vendors and systems integrators are invited to submit nominations, as Lumley said the awards go to the end users. The awards are judged by an international panel of editors and commentators, independent of IBC, who also have a Judges’ Prize in their gift.

In 2015, the content creation award went to the UK’s Channel 4 for its app-driven live talent show ‘The Singer Takes It All’. ESPN won the content management prize for its all-IP production facility, and the content delivery prize was taken by Sundance Channel Global, which added an independent Brazil feed to its Latin America service using a leading-edge cloud solution.

For the IBC2016 Innovation Awards IBC has introduced exciting new benefits for every level of entrant – whether you are a winner or shortlisted, and you will even receive a whole host of benefits just for submitting an entry. In order to provide these extensive benefits, valued at over £4,500 for winners, IBC have introduced a small submission fee of £500. In return for their investment entrants to the IBC Innovation Awards will receive an increased level of publicity in the build up to IBC, during the show and unmissable awards ceremony, and beyond. For a full list of benefits visit IBC.org/awards.

Nominations are invited for all three categories for the IBC2016 Innovation Awards. Entries are equally welcome from broadcasters and service providers, and from technology companies who are proud of their successful collaborations.

Entries should be submitted by 26 February 2016, and the shortlist of finalists will be announced in mid-May. This timescale allows IBC and the finalists to maximise their marketing in the run-up to IBC2016 in September. The names of the winners are not revealed until the ceremony itself at IBC, on Sunday 11 September 2016.

The Awards Ceremony also sees the presentation of the International Honour for Excellence, awarded to an individual or organisation which has represented leadership in our industry over an extended period. In 2015 this went to the RISC chip pioneer ARM, for the technology embedded in virtually every smartphone and tablet today. Previous winners have also included Sir David Attenborough and the Science and Technology Labs of NHK Japan.

Also honoured at the ceremony is the most important paper in the technical conference, and the exhibitors with the most imaginative and practical stands. IBC and the judging panel also occasionally make special awards, such as that marking 100 years of Indian cinema in 2013.
