SP3H was founded by Alain Lunati in 2005 with the challenging vision of shrinking large-scale Near Infrared (NIR) technology from the refining sector to make it accessible to automotive and other market applications. The SP3H team has now delivered on the vision with a NIR based fuel quality sensor that ‘fingerprints’ the DNA or molecular structure of the fuel. By feeding the fuel quality information to an engine control unit (ECU), the engine settings for a vehicle can be modified according to the fuel quality, thereby leading to improved fuel efficiency and reduced pollutant emissions.
