[About the Ginza Komparu St. and Komparu Noh Festival]

Komparu St. runs on the westside of Chuo St. in Ginza 8-chome. In the Edo era, there existed a large house of the Komparu style of Noh and a Komparu Inari Shrine. The name “Komparu” was retained even after the Meiji era, as in Komparu Dori St., Komparu geisha, and Komparu-Yu bathhouse.

The Komparu Noh Festival began in 1985 as a way to carry on the Edo cultural tradition under an agreement between the Ginza Komparu Dori Kai (Shopping Street Association) and the Komparu Enmai Kai (Public Interest Incorporated Association, Noh Shite-Kata, Komparu School). The “Street Noh” performed on Komparu St. on August 7 is based on a 1000-year-old ancient ritual, and is particular to the Nara Komparu style of Noh. It is a dedicatory Noh that wishes and celebrates peace and tranquility.

Come to Komparu St. to have a taste of 650-year-old Nara traditions.
